A Call To Action
America, the land of freedom. The land of equal opportunity. The land that prides themself on a constitution that promises life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. But how much is that constitution uphold.
These were the promises that the founding fathers bestowed on to this land but yet as the years continue their vision becomes more blurred and jaded.
It is no secret that this nation has many faults. From the discrimination in the judicial system to the healthcare system, this nation seems to be missing the bigger picture of governing people.
It is to the point where many people cannot afford insurance and treatment of healthcare. In entirety, many avoid going to seek health services altogether. But what happens when a history of discrimination and the faults of health care mix?
The answer is, unnecessary deaths. In the coming years black maternal mortality rates have increased. It is over 3x more likely for a black woman to die from complications of childbirth than a white woman.
Well, why is that? In the past, there was a common notion that black people have a high pain tolerance. In fact, some doctors still believe in these practices to this day.
As a result when black mothers are delivering their beautiful bundles of joy, they are systematically under treated. Many often go undiagnosed for childbirth complications which results in motherless babies.
In order to have these maternal mortality rates decline, systematic under treatment needs to end. There are studies done that prove that certain ethnicities are prone to certain complications either that be high blood pressure or heart disease. This means that when a mother of a certain ethnicity is preparing to deliver their baby any common health complications amongst that ethnicity should be taken into consideration.
